(Hamilton, Ontario, Canada April 7, 2001)
The Hamilton Spectator today printed an article outlining dangerous activity in the Society of St. Pius X (SSPX).
For almost 3 years now, American cult expert Rick Ross has posted the SSPX on his website's list of dangerous and cult-like groups. He also provides links to other websites that report on the SSPX.
Up until now, Rick Ross has merely collected reports and articles written by others. In the Spectator article, he finally says what he thinks about the SSPX.
He says that the SSPX:
"is a group I've had very, very serious complaints about."
He also calls it:
"an extremely controlling and legalistic group and very extreme."
These comments are very significant, given Mr. Ross's experience in studying cults and dangerous groups. On his website, www.rickross.com, we find that:
"Since 1982 he has been involved in hundreds of interventions in an effort to help the victims of destructive groups. Mr. Ross has been qualified and accepted as an expert witness. He has testified in numerous court cases across the United States concerning destructive groups and their influence and assisted law enforcement."
